CNC Machining

CNC machining (Computer Numerical Control) is an umbrella term for CNC turning, CNC milling, and CNC grinding of materials. When CNC machining takes place, it is done on a computer-controlled machine that, for example, turns, mills or grinds.

The machining of metals, such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, is programmed specifically to produce components.

Povl Møllers Maskinfabrik offers all three of the above CNC machining processes.

The three CNC machining processes

  • CNC turning is a process for manufacturing shafts or cylindrical components. A component is clamped in a lathe where it is turned while a steel is inserted into the component. This allows the geometry to be shaped on the shaft.
  • CNC milling is a process where the component remains stationary. It is clamped in a vise in the machine which has a spindle in which a cutter or drill is placed which rotates at high speed.
  • CNC grinding ensures that the correct tolerance for the component, which must be very precise, i.e., within a few hundredths of a millimeter, is achieved. In addition, round grinding is done to obtain a very fine surface on the component.

Advantages of CNC machining

The advantages of CNC machining are numerous. First and foremost, the process is fast, and the high accuracy of CNC means that the machined components in a series production become identical. CNC machining provides an extremely low error margin and simultaneously opens new doors for machining complex components. Since the entire process is automated it provides a more favorable cost price than manual machining. An additional advantage is that manual handling is minimized because CNC allows us to machine components all at once.

At Povl Møllers Maskinfabrik we have many years of experience with all types of CNC machining, and we solve all types of tasks for our customers. You are always welcome to contact us for advice and guidance on how to best achieve your specific project goals.
